Accused Mass Killer Merhige Arrested In Keys
LONG KEY (CBS4) ― A manhunt that started Thanksgiving day ended late Saturday night near a Long Key hotel. Police sources in the Keys have told CBS4 investigative reporter Jim DeFede that Paul Michael Merhige, wanted for the murder of his aunt, two twin sisters and a 6 year old cousin as the family celebrated Thanksgiving in Jupiter, was arrested Saturday night after his car was found in Long Key. The arrest has yet to be officially confirmed.Police are said to be searching an area around the Edgewater Lodge in Long Key.
CBS4's Gio Benitez, in Long Key, said members of the US Marshall's Service and the Monroe County Sheriff;s office have roped off room 14 of the lodge, which is at Mile Marker 65.5.
Sources tell DeFede Merhige was located after a tip was called into the tip line set up by investigators, saying the blue Toyota Merhige was driving may have been spotted. DeFede was told the arrest was made by the US Marshall's Office, and that Merhige offered no resistance.
